Some Reasons You May Want to Consider a Self Storage Locker

Selecting a storage locker really depends on what your needs are.  You will need to consider how much space you need, what you are storing and what is in your budget. Finding out what you need can be as simple as asking yourself some questions.

There are many different sizes of storage lockers available to rent

You may wonder why you would ever need to rent a self storage locker. I find people surprised that I rent out a storage locker for my business. It gives me a place to store extra materials for my classes that doesn't clutter up any of my rooms. For me it helps separate my business life from the rest of my life which has always posed a challenge for me. Here are some other reasons people opt to rent a self storage locker:

1) While people move they frequently rent storage space to keep the household items they don't need right away in a storage facility. This way they can organize all the basics to their house first then they can worry about other items when they have time.

2) Individuals store items they only use in certain seasons. Bicycles, lawn powers, pool accessories, grills are all items stored during winter. During summer people store their Christmas decorations, skis, snow blowers and other stuff they won't need until it gets chilly again.

3) Storing your stuff while trying to sell the house is a great way to make it more accessible to potential buyers. People have an easier time visualizing themselves in a new house if it isn't filled with someone else's stuff.

4) During repairs, remodeling or painting self storage lockers can save you a lot of time by getting your stuff completely out of the way. Instead of shifting your valuables from room to room, just move everything non-essential to self storage while the work is done to your home. This way you'll spend less time rearranging and moving furniture and more time on the actually improvements.

5) Collectors and hobbyists frequently find themselves running out of space in their home. One of my friend's who restores pinball machines wife just had a baby. During her nesting period she insisted she moved the unused arcades out of the house or sell them! While you may not have such an urgent demands as a pregnant woman, the extra storage space can be a nice way to store items you do not need around necessarily.

Mini Self Storage – A Growing Trend

A rapidly growing trend these days seems to be both the popularity and the building of mini self storage facilities. Mini self storage facilities are typically like any other self storage facility in that there will be a number of different sized storage units for customers to choose from and depending on the needs of the customer these units can be found inside or outside.

The term mini comes from the fact that most mini self storage units have the same sized roll up or swing open door. Now the inside of the individual units are not necessarily the same size, but the doors usually are and they are usually narrower than the doors at a typical self storage facility.

In recent years the surge of mini storage units being built has been phenomenal, perhaps because people just have too much stuff, or perhaps because many people have been forced to give up their homes in a bad housing market. It seems that everywhere you look a new mini self storage unit facility is cropping up and filling up with people’s odds and ends almost as fast as it is built.

One of the reasons for that they fill as fast as can be is the fact that storing your own items versus having someone pack and store your items for you can save you a great deal of money. Of course choosing the right size mini storage unit is helpful and you can usually rely on the staff at the facility to give you guidance. So it makes sense that the smaller the unit the smaller your bill.

Mini self storage is also wildly popular because there are usually no contracts that need to be signed so you are allowed to store your things on a month to month basis. Really if you are good at packing things into a small space you can effectively keep your possessions safe and sound month after month for very little money out of your pocket.

Because mini self storage is so popular these days you do want to be careful as to which facility you choose to store your things at. Be sure you choose a facility that is in a good surrounding area and one that has a gated entrance that will require an access code to open. Also look at the times that the facility is open and make sure that those times will accommodate your schedule as it will do you little good to have a storage unit that is never open in the hours that you are not at work.

Mini self storage it seems is here to stay. So whatever your reasons are for possibly wanting to rent a mini self storage unit, there has never been a better time to do so. If you are cluttered or in the midst of an upcoming move then there is no reason not to make your life just a bit easier and rent a mini self storage unit for a month or two or even more.

Finding a Cheap Self Storage Unit

At some point in life you are going to find yourself up to your eyeballs in stuff and your quest to find good, cheap self storage will begin. While you may not be ready to part with your belongings you may also not be ready to pay a lot of money to store them. You might think that the words good and cheap don’t go hand and hand but in the world of self storage they sometimes can.

There will of course be certain factors you want to look at before you give any of your money away. You will want to consider things such as security, gated or not, and access to the unit for yourself, and these are questions you should ask every storage unit facility you talk to in order to help you make your decision.

Finding a cheap storage unit can be a daunting task or it can be an easy task, it just depends on how you go about it. Here are some ways for you to find good cheap self storage:

• Online: To find a cheap storage unit in your local area all you have to do is conduct a Google, Yahoo, or Ping search for ‘cheap storage units’ followed by your zip code. This will bring up any storage unit facilities in your local area that use the word ‘cheap’ in their description. You can also try ‘low cost’ or ‘affordable’ in your search as well as many business owners will shy away from the word cheap in their advertising. Once you locate a handful of storage unit facilities in your area call them up and ask all the questions you want answered.

• Yellow Pages: This step will require just a bit more leg work on your part. You begin by searching in the yellow pages under ‘self storage’ and then just start dialing numbers. Your first phone call will be nothing more than asking how much they charge for your ideal size storage unit per month. After you have called a couple dozen or so you can see which ones offer the cheapest prices and then call those specific storage unit facilities back and ask all of your questions then.

• Hit the streets: This step will obviously take you the most amount of time. It entails you getting in your car and driving to the different storage facilities and acquiring price information. One advantage to this type of searching is that you actually get to see firsthand how the facility looks. You can simply look around in stealth mode or you can actually ask all the questions you want and request to see the storage unit you are considering renting. If you are not in a talkative mood, go with the stealth operation and be sure to get a business card so that you can call the cheaper storage unit facilities at a later time.

If your area is like most areas in the United States these days, there are a number of different storage unit facilities that you will have to choose from. This is a good thing for you as they will all be trying to undercut one another. With just a little bit of work and a handful of questions asked you too can find a good cheap self storage unit.
